Main Text: Matthew 24:31 (KJV)

“And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

🎺 INTRODUCTION

Behold, the day is coming—not by calendar, but by command.

1 Thessalonians 4:16“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God…”

A trumpet shall shatter the silence.
The angels shall sweep the sky like charioteers of glory.
And from every continent, cave, and coffin, the elect shall rise.

This is not a bedtime verse—it is a battle cry.

I. THE SOUND THAT WAKES THE DEAD

“With a great sound of a trumpet…”Matthew 24:31

The trumpet is not for melody—it is for motion. It is the sound that once:

  • Made Jericho fall – Joshua 6:20
  • Shook Mount Sinai – Exodus 19:16
  • Will raise the dead – 1 Corinthians 15:52“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound…”

The gospel is not a sedative for the sleepy.
It is a trumpet for the lost.

Ephesians 5:14“Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”

II. THE GATHERING OF THE ELECT

“They shall gather together his elect...”Matthew 24:31

Who are the elect?

Ephesians 1:4“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world…”
Romans 8:33“Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.”

They are not the respectable, but the redeemed.
Not the mighty, but the meek.
Not those who signed a card, but those whose hearts were sealed by Christ.

John 6:37“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me…”
2 Timothy 2:10“Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus…”

III. THE FOUR WINDS AND THE FINAL WITNESS

“…from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”Matthew 24:31

The “four winds” signify the complete reach of God’s salvation.

Isaiah 43:5–6“I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back…”

Ezekiel 37:9“Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.”

God’s people are never too far.
No border, no prison, no grave can hold them back.

Revelation 7:9“…a great multitude… of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne…”

IV. THE TIME OF TERROR AND TRIUMPH

Matthew 24:29–30“Immediately after the tribulation… the powers of the heavens shall be shaken… and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven…”

This trumpet doesn’t sound during peace, but in the storm.

Hebrews 12:26“Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.”

When the stars fall and hearts fail,
When Babylon collapses and the Beast rises,
The King will come—not as a servant, but as Sovereign.

Revelation 19:11–14“And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses…”

V. APPLICATION: LIVE GATHERED BEFORE YOU ARE GATHERED

If you live scattered now in sin, don’t expect to be gathered then in glory.

James 4:8“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you…”

Be ready.

Matthew 24:42“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”

Revelation 16:15“Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments…”

🎯 CONCLUSION: ONE LAST WIND

Jeremiah 31:10“He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.”

When the wind blows again,
It will not be for weather—but for war, for worship, and for the wedding of the Lamb.

Will you rise at that trumpet?
Or will you remain in your sleep?

Luke 21:28“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
